Five things we could see from Nintendo at E3
For the keen eyed amongst you, you’ll notice that instead of an E3 topic where we ‘expect’ things, this one is about things we ‘could’ see. The reason for this subtle change is that Nintendo are dedicating almost their entire E3 schedule to one game: The Legend of Zelda.
Because of that, it’s difficult to expect anything more than just The Legend of Zelda being shown, we know that the NX won’t be there and that the Wii U and 3DS line-ups have been almost totally ignored. So with that in mind, just what can hope to see from Nintnedo at E3?
The Nintendo E3 Zelda Direct will be at 9am PT/4pm GMT on the 14th of June.
The full name for the new Legend of Zelda
Considering it’s now less than a year until its release, the new Legend of Zelda title should get a full name at Nintendo’s E3 event. Its name may even provide clues as to where in the timeline it sits as well an idea on the overall theme of the title.
Previous names have usually centered around the main component of the game, for example Ocarina, Wind Waker and Majora’s Mask were all instrumental in both the name of their respective titles as well as with the games themselves. We still don’t know what the main element of the latest Zelda is, so expect to find out at E3.
Confirmation of voice acting in Zelda
We’ve heard rumours that this will be the first Zelda that will feature full voice acting for all non-playable characters, although Link will still be mute. How this will affect the game is yet to be clear, but including voice acting would make for a monumental shift in direction compared to previous Zelda titles and bring it closer to more modern RPG/Adventure titles.
If it’s going to happen then it’ll be announced here.
Gender selection in Zelda
Another strong rumour doing the rounds is that you’ll be able to choose between a male or female link at the start of the game, as well as the usual Zelda tropes such as picking your own name. This will be a welcome addition to the series and in 2016, it’s kind of expected.
No NX news or information
Nintendo have already confirmed that the NX won’t be seeing any further news or information on their next console. While we still may get the tinyiest of nods towards the NX, the best we can hope for is a rough estimate of the NX’s full reveal. We’ll put our money on a full NX blowout around September/October time with a release next March.
The death of the Wii U and 3DS
If Nintendo’s reluctance to discuss anything other than Zelda at this E3 hasn’t tipped you off already, then the lack of any Wii U or 3DS news after the credits role on the Zelda direct will confirm the inevitable. While Pokemon Sun and Moon will be at the show, expect it to be the last major title for 3DS.
